TOTAL AUTHORITARIANISM

Written by Indiana Death Row Prisoner Zolo Agona Azania

An important element of total authoritarianism is the strong effort to mobilize and
inveigh the masses to get them to identify with the state rulers and its objectives.

The death penalty was pressed against me because, among other things,
i declared my conscious citizenship and allegiance to the Republic of New Afrika in court.
i was captured in August 1981 for armed bank expropriation and killing a White policeman in Gary, Indiana.
On May 25, 1982 i was sentenced to the penalty of death. My direct appeal was rejected in 1984.
The Supreme Court of Indiana subsequently overturned the death sentence in 1993,
but they allowed the prosecution to put it on me again in March 1996.
i am still appealing the state government's ruling.

The death penalty is not applied because that is what majority of the people in this country want.
The death penalty is carried out because this is what the plutocracy and oligarchy wants.
The official executioner death squad is the right-wing organization of brute coercion to enforce the status quo.
They have overt permission from the oligarchy to do the murdering. The purpose of these operations not crime prevention,
but rather to instill terror in the masses as a whole.

Rising crime or the fear of being a victim of crime is an excuse for the death penalty also.
Most people learn about crime primarily from the mass media, not by actual experience.
Fear, real or imagine, cause hysteria and invites attack. Then capital punishment,
as a crass symbol of attack against crime, is proposed as a stark solution.

International human rights standards are not recognized in the state of Indiana (and elsewhere in these United States)
because i raised the fundamental issue in my direct appeal and it was rejected by the State Supreme Court.
The use of the death penalty to repress liberation movements is state sanction terrorism.
Revolutionaries are enemies, a threat to "security" of the elite, and must be treated accordingly.
U.S. capital punishment is an instrument of class warfare, organized and designed to permit an elite,
local and multinational, to operate without any constraint from democratic human rights processes.
My case is an example.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP ME

i realize that it is family and friends in my local area that will make the difference as far as legal support is concern.
It takes dealing with the media and really working the community; house to house;
people on street corners talking about my case, as well as the laws that steam rolled over me,
about the death penalty, about this parasitic economic empire system, etc.
You can also help by duplicating and distributing this epistle to other interrested parties,
and generally bring people into light about my case.
