           8. Summary

This is not a comprehensive list of things that are wrong in Grover Reed’s case. The current appeal lists fourteen issues. I have highlighted just four, and omitted some detail without changing the context of the any of the issues.

The prosecution relied on 3 main issues of evidence.

1.The fingerprint issue, where a relevant unidentified fingerprint was included in a deposition but not included in the testimony of Bruce Scott. He had resigned from the FDLE (possibly under pressure) for drug abuse over 12 to 18 months, including the time he investigated in this case, and who testified under oath with everyone having an understanding he was still with the department.

2.The blood type, where Paul Doleman testified effectively proving that Grover Reed was not the person who had intercourse with the victim, Betty Oermann, since he was a non secretor of blood type, and the person who had the intercourse secreted blood.

3.The hair samples where James Luten’s testimony proved only that samples of hair (four to be precise) could have been Grover Reed’s, and in any event, Reed was no stranger to the house or the victim, so if the head hair samples were his it proved nothing anyway.

The defence by Richard Nichols was abysmal.

1.He failed to challenge a single issue on the three points above, and in many other issues I have not highlighted.

2.He deliberately failed to establish any chain of custody of evidence by State Investigators in any of these issues.

3.He failed to counter the State’s argument of motive, when even the victim’s husband, in written deposition had disproved the state’s theory.

4.He ignored alibi witnesses that would have at very least cast serious doubts on the possibility that Grover reed could have committed the crime.

5.The only defence he offered was clearly ‘ad lib’ and incredulous without even reference to Grover Reed, and in the process deliberately assassinated his Grover Reed’s character to the jury.

If, after reading this, you are convinced of Grover Reed’s guilt, I am sorry to have wasted your time.

If, on the other hand, you agree that at least some serious doubts exist in this case, you can help if you want to.
