Death Row Prisoner John Sansing's Letter Regarding Allowing Prisoners to
Become Living Organ Donors
Dear Sir or Madam:
I am contacting you to request
your assistance with a new law that I think is extremely
valuable and will save countless lives.
My idea is to allow prison inmates to become living organ
donors.
This could contribute to saving
many lives, increase the quality of life for so many and
allow the inmate who was interested, to give back to a community
whom he or she has taken so much from. Imagine an inmates
family member needing an organ, but the inmate is the only potential
match and being unable to access the life saving organ or tissue
?
Many inmates understand the wrong
and hurt they have caused and wish to aid the community to
show true remorse. I believe this is one way that many
would willingly choose, without any restitution sought and on their
own freewill. This would not be to benefit the inmate in any
way; no reduction in sentence or payment to the inmate. This
would be clearly stated on all premedical forms and discussions.
Imagine a webpage set up that is
accessible by the medical community where they can access
information on suitable healthy and medically cleared potential
donors. Imagine the delight a family would have knowing
their child could be saved from one of these donors. I
don't believe they'd have an issue with where the organ came from,
as long as it was a healthy match for their child.
I currently sit on death row and
my life expectancy is in God's hands now. I am at
peace with myself but feel that many inmates and myself can
still contribute to the good of our community - many of us want
to "do some good." To do this, I need your help. I
respectfully ask that you review my idea and respond accordingly.
Thank you for your time and I look
forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Sincerley,
John E Sansing 146991
